The Ontario Trillium Foundation is providing $200,000 to the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario in funding this year. The funds will be used to repair and renovate John Island Camp to increase safety and accessibility.

The provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation is providing $200,000 to the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario this year through the Capital grant stream, states a press release from Nippising MPP Vic Fedeli’s office.

The funds will be used to repair and renovate John Island Camp to increase safety and accessibility and “allow the camp to continue providing youth leadership opportunities for years to come,” continues the release.

“Our government believes facilities like the YMCA Northeastern Ontario enrich the lives of people in our community,” said Fedeli. “This financial support will enable the YMCA to make it easier for residents to access critical programming and activities at this camp located within the North Channel of Lake Huron.”

“The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is thrilled to receive this generous grant from the Ontario

Trillium Foundation,” said Lorrie Turnbull, President and CEO for the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario. “The funds will go toward renewing critical infrastructure at our John Island YMCA Camp. These improvements will allow more generations of campers to experience the magic of overnight camp, while building leadership skills, forging new friendships and sharing experiences to be remembered for a lifetime. “

Turnbull said in the release “Thanks to OTF, we can continue igniting the potential of youth in our communities through transformative camp experiences.”

OTF’s Capital grant stream helps organizations improve their infrastructure so they can continue delivering programs and services that Ontarians need to thrive, whether it’s purchasing equipment, building a new space or completing renovations, retrofits or repairs.

These Capital grants are part of the more than $28 million supporting 291 local programs and services that help deliver community programming across the province.
